Conservative Party needs honest election post-mortem, soul searching exercise Posted: 23 Oct 2015 01:20 PM PDT The Conservatives ran the No Change campaign, which didn't resonate. Here's how the party can regroup and move forward. Fri, 2015-10-23 16:05 The historic victory by the Liberals on Oct. 19 was well planned, executed and earned. For three years, the Liberal braintrust crafted, nurtured and drove a generational change message. During the election they framed this message with an ambitious policy vision: the Real Change platform. Finally, their positive ads and high-energy leader’s tour ensured that their candidates, volunteers and a winning swath of Canadians bought, owned, shared and ultimately voted for this message. It was a textbook campaign: change equals hope, growth, and prosperity. |
Water security in Canada poses one of our most daunting public policy challenges Posted: 23 Oct 2015 10:20 AM PDT A national water strategy would send a message to the agricultural sector, First Nations communities, municipalities, energy companies and all those whose lives are touched by water, that not only do we take our water seriously, but that we officially recognize the need to work together to understand and manage this essential resource. Fri, 2015-10-23 13:16 Canadians make up 0.5 per cent of the world population, yet have seven per cent of the world’s fresh water. Unfortunately, though, water security requires more than abundance. It also depends on where, when and how water is available. And Canada currently has many water quality challenges holding it back from true water security. A University of Alberta study found toxic blue-green algae in every single Canadian province. More than 1,000 communities across Canada currently have boil water advisories: a number that stays stubbornly consistent. |
