Muhyiddin: How I made Najib the PM

Ousted DPM says Mahathir asked him to replace Abdullah but he said Najib as deputy should be the one

(Free Malaysia Today) – Muhyiddin Yassin has revealed that he was instrumental in Najib Razak becoming prime minister, and that he had declined when asked by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to replace Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Muhyiddin related the background to Najib's assumption of power when speaking at a dialogue in Johor Bahru yesterday. The dialogue was organised by publishing company Karangkraf and its daily newspaper Sinar Harian.

He said he had met Najib and urged him to challenge Abdullah after the Barisan Nasional suffered severe losses in the 2008 general election, losing power in five states.

"The thing with Najib is, he takes a long time to make up his mind," Muhyiddin said, according to Malaysian Insider. "That was when I met Dr Mahathir and he asked me to go for the presidency. But I said no, I can't, I am only party vice president, and Najib is the deputy president, so he should go for it."

Muhyiddin said he was eventually the one who convinced Najib to take up the challenge and become prime minister.

"It was on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Senai that I told him that he needs to make up his mind quickly and I told him that Dr Mahathir had asked me to take up the challenge instead. That was when Najib said okay, he will do it. He agreed to it on a flight to Johor," said Muhyiddin.

About 400 people, most of them Johor Umno members, attended the dialogue session, held in a hotel in Johor Bahru.

Muhyiddin: I didn’t rape, sodomise or break any laws

Posted: 24 Oct 2015 02:53 AM PDT

muhyiddin shafie

(Malay Mail Online) – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today questioned his treatment in Umno following his removal as deputy prime minister, saying he was being sidelined despite having committed no offence.

During a forum organised in Johor Baru by Malay daily Sinar Harian, Muhyiddin said he was ostracised by the party even though he remained the second most senior leader in Umno after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

"I didn't rape, I didn't commit sodomy, I didn't break any laws … why was I victimised when I only spoke out for Umno members," he said in the forum that was broadcast live online.

According to Muhyiddin, it was the president's prerogative whether to accept his criticism and that it was okay to admit when one has made a mistake.

The Umno deputy president said reducing his role in the party was disrespectful of Umno members who elected him to the position as well as his contributions to the party.

He earlier said that he did not wish any ill on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), but was only expressing his concern over how the firm's operations appeared to be funded largely through loans as the government only provided it with RM1 million in capital.

"I never wished for 1MDB to collapse, because if 1MDB falls then the government falls with it; I only expressed concern about 1MDB's issues," he explained.

Muhyiddin was removed as deputy prime minister during a Cabinet reshuffle in July owing to his open criticism of Putrajaya over its handling of 1MDB and its reported RM42 billion in debt.

Today, he repeated that he did not know the intricacies of 1MDB despite attending Cabinet meetings on the firm, and only understood the matter after he read further into it.

Muhyiddin also asserted that 1MDB's chief executive Arul Kanda Kandasamy was not able to provide any insight into the firm and its finances when the latter was summoned to explain the matters to the Cabinet.

"I told the Cabinet to summon Arul Kanda, 'come', but he came empty handed and he gave no figures.

"Arul Kanda came as though without preparation, when 1MDB involves billions of ringgit," Muhyiddin added.

Aside from Muhyiddin, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal was also dropped as rural and regional development minister over public dissent on 1MDB in the same reshuffle.

In June, Putrajaya announced a six-month plan to rationalise 1MDB's reported RM42 billion in debt and this month said it was on track for completion by the end of the year.

There is no ‘Rawang Move’

Posted: 24 Oct 2015 12:52 AM PDT

mt2014-corridors-of-power

That, of course, would make sense. I mean, you may not be sure whether this is true but you spread the rumour anyway and then you deny your own rumour (even if you yourself started that rumour) to kill any possibility of that happening in case someone may be thinking of it.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

The opposition is always being subjected to slander, innuendoes and lies. Not too long ago there were rumours of a 'Kajang Move'. The rumour was that the State Assemblyman for Kajang, Lee Chin Cheh, would resign to allow Anwar Ibrahim to contest the by-election that would follow.

Of course, that was denied and true enough Anwar Ibrahim did not contest any by-election in Kajang. In fact, he went to jail — but Sungai Buloh Jail, and not Kajang Jail like he should have.

Then the rumour was that Anwar's wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, would contest the Kajang by-election instead and the reason was so that she could replace Khalid Ibrahim as the new Selangor Menteri Besar.

This, yet again, was proven not true. Wan Azizah did not take over as the Selangor Menteri Besar. Azmin Ali did.

Then the rumours started flying that Khalid needs to be replaced as the Menteri Besar because Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was about to be ousted from office.

Again, this proved not true. Najib is still in office long after Khalid was kicked out.

Anyway, it was reported that Rafizi Ramli was the one who said that Khalid must be kicked out so that the opposition can be saved in the event Najib is kicked out. They even published quotes from Rafizi.

However, I doubt that this is true and they must have lied and slandered Rafizi. How can kicking out Khalid help save the opposition in the event that Najib is kicked out? Can you see how stupid that statement is?

So I doubt Rafizi is stupid enough to say that although he was reported to have said it and although he never denied that report. It is all lies to make the opposition look downright silly.

Then there were rumours that Khalid has to be kicked out because he is a crook. Someone (they allege it was Saifuddin Nasution) published a thick dossier listing down Khalid's 'crimes' and whoever was behind this even put PKR's name and logo on that dossier.

Yet, again, I suspect that this dossier is a forgery because not long before that DAP's Tony Pua had publicly declared that Khalid is the best, most honest, most hard working, etc., Menteri Besar in history. So why would PKR want to publish a dossier of Khalid's so-called crimes after Tony Pua publicly declared that Khalid is Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa two-in-one.

Furthermore, no police report was ever made against Khalid and he was not arrested and charged after he resigned as Menteri Besar like Khir Toyo was.

And now they are spinning lies about the 'Rawang Move'. And, of course, this, too, is being denied like they denied the lies that there was going to be a Kajang Move.

So readers had better beware. The rumours of the Kajang Move were proven lies in the end, as, too, were the rumours as to why Khalid must be kicked out — to save the opposition in the event the Prime Minister gets ousted. Hence we can regard all these rumours regarding the Rawang Move as equally untrue.

I mean, it could even be a suspicion only and the rumour being spread about a Rawang Move is merely a pre-emptive strike in case the entry of Saifuddin Abdullah into PKR is due to some ulterior motive.

After all, they have done this before during the 2010 Hulu Selangor by-election. When they knew they were going to lose, PKR's own people started spreading fake photos of their party candidate, Zaid Ibrahim, drinking beer. Then they blamed Umno for these fake photos and when Zaid lost they blamed the fake photos for the loss.

That, of course, would make sense. I mean, you may not be sure whether this is true but you spread the rumour anyway and then you deny your own rumour (even if you yourself started that rumour) to kill any possibility of that happening in case someone may be thinking of it.

It’s just a rumour, says Saifuddin on “Rawang Move”

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 11:27 PM PDT

Azmin-Saifuddin

(The Star) – Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah has rubbished talk of the "Rawang Move," saying that such rumours are normal in politics.

"This is just a rumour. Why people spread it? I do not know. Maybe for some it is good for chitchat," said Saifuddin when contacted by The Star Online on Saturday.

"Rumours are not uncommon in politics," added the former Temerloh MP.

Rumours were circulating that the Rawang assembly seat will be vacated to enable a by-election to pave the way for Saifuddin to replace current Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali.

When asked if he is interested to become the state leader, the former deputy minister brushed it aside.

"I am not ambitious. Besides I am from Pahang," said Saifuddin who joined PKR from Umno on Oct 15.

Earlier today, Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said that Wanita PKR is certain that Saifuddin did not join PKR to split the party, but to strengthen it instead.

She also said that Rawang MP Gan Pei Nei already rubbished the “Rawang Move” and that the only move in store is the “Pekan Move”.

“All these curiosity about the removal of Azmin Ali was brought about by the sudden joining of a rather reputable Umno member who also happens to be a former member of parliament,” said Zuraida who is also Ampang MP.

She said that this has irritated Umno members and caused them to create gossip to “make themselves feel better.”

Kit Siang suffers a vote of no confidence

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 10:59 PM PDT

mt2014-corridors-of-power

But then if I cannot even win in a 'tame' exercise like blocking Kit Siang's suspension, how can I win in a more complex move like voting the Prime Minister out of office?

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Lim Kit Siang was suspended from Parliament for six months with a 107:77 vote. 107 MPs voted for his suspension with 77 voting against. That means 38 MPs were absent for whatever reason.

Nine opposition MPs were absent — seven from PAS and two from PKR — while 29 Barisan Nasional MPs were also absent. No reason for their absence was offered.

Anyway, if the nine absent opposition MPs had attended the Parliament sitting it would still have been 107:86 — assuming the nine opposition MPs vote with their other 77 comrades to oppose the motion to suspend Kit Siang.

Of course, I am assuming that the 107 MPs who voted for Kit Siang's suspension were all from Barisan Nasional while the 77 who voted against it were also all from the opposition and that there was no 'cross-border-voting'— because if there were it would have been 'headline news' by now.

Now, did these 38 absent MPs (29 from BN and nine from the opposition) absent themselves from Parliament for valid reasons? Or did they absent themselves because they wanted to abstain from voting?

In other words they did not want to vote either for or against Kit Siang's suspension but they do not want the public to know. They want their 'loyalty' to remain a secret, at least for now.

What I am most interested to know is how did Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah vote? In the first place, did he attend Parliament or was he one of those 38 absent MPs? And if he attended Parliament did he vote alongside the 107 who voted to suspend Kit Siang or did he vote with the 77 who opposed Kit Siang's suspension.

I ask these questions because I do not have the information yet. Anyway, whatever it may be it would not look good for Ku Li.

The issue here is, there are three possible scenarios. First, Ku Li was absent from Parliament and therefore 'abstained' from voting. Second, Ku Li attended Parliament and voted with the 107 to suspend Kit Siang. Third, Ku Li attended Parliament and voted with the 77 to oppose the suspension.

Now, I am raising this matter because Ku Li has set up an operations centre in his house to plan the vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. So he is very much in the eye of the storm, so to speak.

According to Ku Li's people, five of the nine Rulers support this planned vote of no confidence — Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak and Terengganu. And Ku Li's people also said Perlis and Negeri Sembilan were the Rulers behind that press statement regarding 1MDB that was issued after the pre-council meeting on the eve of the recent Conference of Rulers.

If what Ku Li's people said were true, then this would have serious repercussions on Malaysian politics. First of all, this means the Rulers have been dragged into Malaysian politics. Secondly, the Rulers are now divided between the pro-Najib and anti-Najib camps. Thirdly, even if the Rulers were 'taking sides' in this political struggle, I doubt they would want it made public like what Ku Li's people are doing.

Anyway, the 107:77-vote to suspend Kit Siang with 38 'abstaining' is definitely most interesting indeed. They would need at least 112 votes for the vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister to be passed. If they did have these 112 (or more) votes, they could have tested it by using those 112 (or more) votes to block Kit Siang's suspension. After all, only 107 voted in favour of suspending Kit Siang.

Is it they do not have the 112 (or more) votes? Or is it they do have the 112 (or more) votes but they do not want anyone to know yet? Or is it that those who are going to vote for the vote of no confidence want to remain 'underground' for the meantime in case the vote fails and that would expose them to the risk of retaliation?

If it were I, I would have wanted to test my strength by seeing if I have enough votes. And one way would be to make sure that at least 112 MPs vote to block Kit Siang's suspension. And if I can succeed in a 'simple' thing like that then that would mean I would have a better chance of winning the no confidence vote.

But then if I cannot even win in a 'tame' exercise like blocking Kit Siang's suspension, how can I win in a more complex move like voting the Prime Minister out of office?

Undi Tidak Percaya : Pembangkang Tidak Fikir Panjang?

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 08:40 PM PDT

wan-azizah pakatah-harapan

Senario 1: Undi Tak Percaya Gagal

Senario 2: Undi Tak Percaya Berjaya

Wanita PKR annoyed by “Rawang Move”

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 08:27 PM PDT

Zuraida

(The Star) – Wanita PKR is annoyed by rumours that there are plans to remove Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali through the “Rawang Move”.

It is claimed that the “Rawang Move” is aimed at replacing Azmin with PKR’s newest member, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, as Selangor menteri besar.

It is believed that the Rawang assembly seat will be vacated to enable a by-election to pave the way for Saifuddin to replace Azmin.

Wanita PKR chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said that Wanita PKR is certain that Saifuddin did not join PKR to split the party, but to strengthen it instead.

“It is because he (Saifuddin) believes in our cause and is willing to fight alongside the reformist team,” said Zuraida in a statement on Saturday.

She said that Rawang MP Gan Pei Nei already rubbished the “Rawang Move” and that the only move in store is the “Pekan Move”.

“All these curiosity about the removal of Azmin Ali was brought about by the sudden joining of a rather reputable Umno member who also happens to be a former member of parliament,” said Zuraida who is also Ampang MP.

She said that this has irritated Umno members and caused them to create gossip to “make themselves feel better”.

“We hope that UMNO cybertroopers will stop wasting people’s time on unfounded gossip and look into the country’s economic situation instead,” said Zuraida.

“Diverting people’s attention away from the 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6bil donation will not solve our country’s woes.

“Selangor under the stewardship of Azmin Ali will continue to progress in leaps and bounds,” she said.

Sultan withdraws Khir Toyo’s ‘Datuk Seri’ award

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 09:52 AM PDT

sultan-selangor-khir-toyo

(Bernama) – The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has withdrawn the Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) award conferred on former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

The SPMS (First Class) award conferred in 2001, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri', was withdrawn on September 30, Selangor State Secretary Mohammed Khusrin Munawi said today.

He said the sultan decided on the withdrawal after consultation with the Selangor Royal Council.

The withdrawal followed the Federal Court decision on September 29 upholding the conviction and 12-month jail sentence meted out by the Shah Alam High Court on Dr Mohamad Khir for using his position to buy land and a bungalow in Shah Alam eight years ago.

"As Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo was found guilty and sentenced for the offence he was charged with, he is no longer fit to hold this award," he said in a statement.

As such, Dr Mohamad Khir was prohibited from keeping the award and using the "Datuk Seri" title while others were barred from addressing him by that title.

Mohammed Khusrin said the sultan was concerned about the reputation of recipients of Selangor state awards, especially leaders involved in criminal wrongdoing and immoral acts such as corruption, breach of trust and abuse of power.

He said the recipients of Selangor state awards should protect the dignity of the awards and maintain their own status.

"The sultan advised all civil servants, leaders, professionals and corporate leaders not to practice abuse of power or corruption in daily life as these can destroy the dignity of the race, people, religion and country.

"He reminded all quarters to ensure that appropriate measures and action are taken to curb corruption, breach of trust, abuse of power and immoral practices among civil servants, leaders, professionals, corporate members and individuals to ensure that the state and the country are run by an efficient administration with integrity," he said.

Kit Siang confirms the conspiracy and names the conspirators

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 09:42 AM PDT

mt2014-corridors-of-power

And in this instant there is no doubt that all those 21 that Kit Siang named are working in concert. Maybe those who are not proficient in English do not comprehend that conspiracy comes from the word conspire, or what Malays would say pakat. And there is certainly a 'pakatan' involved here.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Yesterday, Lim Kit Siang posted the article below in his Blog. First of all, Kit Siang confirmed what Muhyiddin Yassin told the Umno supreme council earlier — that a conspiracy to topple Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak does exist. However, while Muhyiddin just said he knows about the conspiracy but will not name those who are involved, Kit Siang went and named them yesterday.

The second point is, Malaysia Today had named them back in August 2015. This was initially denied but then Kit Siang now confirms what Malaysia Today had said by also mentioning all those names. Hence Kit Siang backs up what Malaysia Today had earlier alleged.

Two days ago, Kit Siang was suspended from Parliament for six months with a majority vote. This is not good news for those who are trying to pass a vote of no confidence against the Prime Minister. If they cannot even get a majority vote to save Kit Siang from a suspension, how are they going to get a majority vote to pass a vote of no confidence against Najib?

Anyway, Kit Siang's point is that he is rubbishing this conspiracy allegation. And he does this by using quotation marks — "conspirators against parliamentary democracy". The fact, however, remains that it becomes a conspiracy once everyone works in concert.

And in this instant there is no doubt that all those 21 that Kit Siang named are working in concert. Maybe those who are not proficient in English do not comprehend that conspiracy comes from the word conspire, or what Malays would say pakat. And there is certainly a 'pakatan' involved here.

*******************************************

Mahathir probably the next victim of the 1MDB Monster stalking the land-devouring critics

Lim Kit Siang

I said in Parliament yesterday that I was the latest victim of the 1MDB "Monster" stalking the land-devouring critics.

Parliamentary conventions, practice and procedures have been shoved aside to achieve the objective to suspend me from Parliament for six months, although the proper parliamentary procedure and practice would be to refer me to the Committee of Privileges to ascertain whether what I said in Parliament when seeking clarification from the AMANAH MP for Sepang, Mohamed Hanipa bin Maidin was a "contempt" of the Speaker and Parliament, or whether the Speaker was misguided when he alleged that I had accused him of "deliberately" abusing his powers and sabotaging the Public Accounts Committee investigations into the 1MDB scandal.

On Wednesday, I had submitted to Parliament the following motion under Standing Order 43 to review the Speaker's decision in August to stop the PAC from continuing its 1MDB investigations:

"Under Standing Orders 43 and 99, this House resolves that the ruling of the Speaker in August 2015 prohibiting the Public Accounts Committee under its Deputy Chairman, MP for Kepong, from continuing its proceedings to investigate the 1MDB scandal until the Chairman of the PAC has been appointed is wrong, an abuse of power and incompatible with the objective in having a Public Accounts Committee which enjoys credibility and respect of Malaysians for its commitment and conscientiousness to ensure that all government and public finances uphold the highest standards of integrity."

Although my notice of this motion has become academic with my suspension from Parliament yesterday, had I also committed contempt of Speaker and Parliament in submitting such a motion to the Speaker on Wednesday, in total contravention of parliamentary convention, and practice and procedure?

As I said in my speech in Parliament yesterday, I was only the latest victim of the 1MDB "Monster" which had already claimed many highly-placed casualties, including former Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, the Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail, the multi-agency Special Task Force into the two mega-scandals of 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion "donation" in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts, and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) investigations into 1MDB by the simple expedient of promoting the PAC Chairman and three PAC Members as Minister and Deputy Ministers.

In Parliament yesterday, I spoke of the "disease stalking the land – the 1MDB Monster", and one manifestation was the appearance of a website on the day Najib sacked Muhyiddin, Shafie and Gani Patail, which indicated its association with powerful quarters, naming 21 persons as "conspirators against parliamentary democracy" who were to be hunted down under Section 124 of the Penal Code (which with SOSMA would be playing the role of the new ISA) with the appointment of the new Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali and new Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

As I listed in Parliament yesterday, these 21 alleged "conspirators against the democratically elected government", or to be more exact, against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who are to be hunted down under Section 124 of the Penal Code which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison are:

1) Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus – Deputy Governor, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)

2) Shamsuddin bin Mohd Mahayidin (BNM) – Foreign Exchange Administration

3) Abdul Rahman bin Abu Bakar (BNM) – Financial Intelligence and Enforcement

4) Dato ' Sri Mohd Shukri Bin Abdul (MACC) – Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operation)

5) Datuk Tan Kang Sai – MACC Special Operation Division Deputy Director

6) YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Rashpal Singh a/l Jeswant Singh – A Member of the Advisory Board of the Anti-Corruption (ACAB)

7) Jessica Gurmeet Kaur D/O Nashattar Singh – Heads the Special Task Force Secretariat, Administration and Finance department

8) Dr.Tong Kooi Ong – Executive Chairman, The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd.

9) Ho Kay Tat – Group Chief Executive Officer and Publisher, The Edge Communications Sdn. Bhd.

10) Clare Rewcastle Brown – British investigative journalist Editor-in-chief of Sarawak Report

11) Sufi Yusof – Mahathir Mohamad's Press Secretary

12) Tony Pua – Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara – National Publicity Secretary for Democratic Action Party (DAP)

13) Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz – Governor Bank Negara Malaysia

The above list shows how far-reaching are the tentacles of the 1MDB "Monster".

I am only the latest victim of the 1MDB Monster and more victims, including former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir, would be the casualties unless the 1MDB Monster could be stopped in its tracks.

All Malaysians are concerned about the inordinate delay in 1MDB investigations.

Even the Malay Rulers have expressed their concern in their unprecedented statement of Oct. 6 that the government should complete 1MDB investigations "as soon as possible" and to take "appropriate stern action" against all found to be implicated – a clear disapproval of the delays and procrastinations in 1MDB investigations, including the three-month delay of the PAC into 1MDB investigations.

Will Najib in his 2016 Budget presentation in Parliament this evening be able to tell Malaysians and the waiting world that there is light at the end of the tunnel to stop the 1MDB Monster in its tracks from destroying not only the Najib premiership, but plunging Malaysia headlong in the direction of a rogue and failed state?
